Coordinates all data analysis functions for Pediatric Intensive Care. Assists in evaluating and preparing data for retrieva! l and preparation of data for submission. Performs duties within approved practices and exercises independent judgment within pre-determined guidelines. Assesses, organizes and synthesizes clinical data collected for a specific purpose and/or for individuals/agencies requiring such information. In addition, ensures that data produce valid, meaningful, and reliable results. Proactively supports the efforts that ensure delivery of safe quality patient care.
Assists Principal Investigators, the Nurse Manager, Clinical Coordinator, Medical Staff, and all research team members with work related to hospital-wide quality initiatives, clinical trial protocols for the Pediatric Intensive Care service line and its affiliates by preparing for Institutional Review Board (IRB) review. Serves as the primary liaison between the team and the designated IRB. Data and clerical assignments are specific to Pediatric Intensive Care services and related work will be reviewed upon comple! tion.
Essential Duties / Responsibilities:

A. Applies knowledge related to Pediatric Intensive Care guidelines and regulatory agency standards in the provision of extracting and entering data.
Performance demonstrates adherence to guidelines when preparing and transmitting data.
Performs, documents and interprets collection of data on all patients assessed.
Establishes a system for tracking and correcting entries into the system based on files that need follow-up, accuracy of files, and maintains a Pediatric Intensive Care log.
Facilitates access of information.
Maintains files and records of all required formation in the system.
Keeps all information confidential and adheres to HIPPA regulations.
Develops care provider, patient, and patient care service reports for distribution.
Distributes all reports to appropriate individuals/groups.
Updates computer information consistently.
Demonstrates ! the knowledge and skills necessary to interact appropriately to the age of all patients served to include neonates, infants, and adolescents.
Inputs data in a timely and accurate manner and complies with and assists in the compilation of statistical information for special reports and service line requirements.
Utilizes computerized data entry equipment and various word processing, spreadsheets and file maintenance programs to enter, store, and/or retrieve information as requested and required, and summarizes data in preparation of standardized reports.
B. Supports clinical benchmarking activities related to performance improvement to include: review and abstracting multiple patient records; development and maintenance of a statistical unit-based database; development and maintenance of a standardized process to compile, input, and analyze data for projects such as PIC, VPS, NDNQI, and/or any other related national or organizational body.
! Assists with the development and maintenance of an ongoing PI program.!
Collaborates with Nurse Manager, physicians, Clinical Coordinator and staff to identify PI indicators and measurement tools.
Compiles and reports data and/or reports as requested by the organization and/or any regulating/benchmarking entity within specificed time requirements.
Develops and maintains an accurate log of all PICU admissions and discharges in accordance with organizational requirements.
Develops and maintains a standardized process for data submission and processing of data posted.
Maintains internal quality monitoring systems to assure accuracy of data entered into VPS.
Reviews and validates all VPS data records.
C. Supports and promotes excellence in customer/guest relations.
Assists patients, family members/significant others, physicians, visitors in a friendly manner.
Demonstrates ethical and appropriate behavior for a clinical environment to include, but not limited to dignit! y, patientâs rights and privacy, and the maintenance of confidentiality of patient information.

D. Activities are managed to support the Pediatric Intensive Care goals/objectives.
Demonstrates commitment to and understanding of need to adhere to policies and procedures.
Duties and responsibilities are carried out in a cost effective and fiscally responsible manner.
E. Research activities are managed to support the Pediatric Intensive Care service line and VPS clinical research.
Applies research principles, methodologies and study design.
Interfaces with research team members to contribute to a collaborative environment and high quality outcome.
Performs duties required for the submission of new protocols, protocol amendments, suspensions, terminations, and other changes related to all clinical trial protoco! ls with physician, health care provider, and team collaboration.
Performs duties required for annual continuing review of all ongoing clinical trial protocols.
Manages communications to Principal Investigators (PIs); notifies PIs and other research team members (as applicable) of IRB decisions, requests additional information when required and coordinates supplementary materials required by the IRB including the preparation and distribution of information.
Completes required initial VPS training and demonstrates ongoing data collection proficiency at intervals defined by VPS participation policies.
F. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills
Skills:
Proficient in the use of personal computers (Windows environment), Microsoft Office, Excel and Word.
Possesses effective oral and written communication skills.
Knowledgeable of English grammar, punctuation and spelling.
Typing speed of 40 wpm.
Bilingual: English and Spanish preferre! d.
Possesses effective interpersonal skills.
Ability to comprehend English at a level necessary to follow written and oral instructions and safety precautions.
Experience related to research with knowledge of research principles, methodologies and study design.
Ability to perform medical summaries with strong analytical capabilities.
Knowledge of information systems, excel and access programs, and data base development.
Good interpersonal and communication skills and conflict resolution.
Adept at problem solving.
Flexibility and adaptability to change.
Required Experience
Minimum Position Requirements:
A. Work Experience:
Two years office management experience or two years experience in research-related field or Pediatric health care with knowledge of terminology and flow sheets.
B. License/Registration/Certification
RN, or RRT; experience in ped! iatric critical care preferred.
C. Education and Training:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing or other healthcare related field.
Certified Research Assistance or equivalent preferred
Completion of Course for Protection of Human Subjects within 3 months hire.
