Responsible for the overall operation of the department.

Responsible for orientating, evaluating, and documenting competency of ! personnel.

Establishes, maintains, and revises departmental policies and procedure to include departmental programs, quality control, performance improvement, and safety. Maintains departmental expenses and productivity as budgeted.

Oversees respiratory care as delivered by the Respiratory Therapy department.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Respects and maintains the confidentiality of information relative to patient care.

Adheres to and enforces prescribed safety policies and regulations.

Works independently with minimal direction.

Functions as a liaison between Respiratory Care and the respiratory care customers.

Provides care for neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.

Operates general equipment, including but not limited to: telephones, computer keyboards and CRT, respiratory therapy delivery equipment.

Must be able to demon! strate understanding of HCA’s and St. David’s “Patients ! First” safety initiative by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures.

Recognizes that variables such as age, race, nationality, culture, disease-causing vulnerabilities, socioeconomic factors affect the patient populations under their care. Uses interventions appropriate to these factors (e.g., interpreter, dietary preferences, social service consult, etc.)

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical reports.

Ability to write accurate and concise clinical documents, memos, and required business correspondence.

Ability to collect and analyze data using statistical methods.

Ability to communicate effectively at all levels within the department and with department customers.

Expected to abide by all policies and procedures and inquire when needed for clarification.

Education:
Required:
Graduate of an American Medical Association accredited Respiratory Therapy program
Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree in Allied Health Management, Business or Respiratory Therapy

Experience:
Required:
Three years-previous RRT/Five years-previous CRT experience in an

acute care setting.

Two year Shift Coordinator /Relief Charge experience in

Respiratory Therapy.

License/Certification:
Required:
Licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner by the State of Texas;

Valid Basic Cardiac Life Support certification with specialization for healthcare providers

Preferred:
ACLS and/or NRP;

NRP required for all NICU staff;

ACLS required for all ICU staff
