This position is located in the Dallas Orthopedic Practice and performs the functions of a registered nurse in direct an! d indirect patient care. Utilizes the nursing process in the delivery of developmentally appropriate care. Patients seen in the outpatient or ambulatory care setting are assessed according to their presenting diagnosis, status, need, and the defined assessment components of the service by which they are being seen. Assessment may be conducted during a face to face examination or during a telephonic encounter. Documentation of findings, referrals to other services based on assessment findings, and appointments for reassessment are planned and completed at the time of the visit. Works effectively with members of the health care team in the provision of care to patients and families.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Patient Care
Reviews abnormal patient screening and data collection results
Conduct focused patient assessments based on the reason for the visit
Conducts focused patient assessments based on any concerns about the patie! nt’s general condition at the time of check in.
Com! plete thorough physical assessment if patient presents with unstable clinical findings on patients requiring nursing assessment
Patient education
Educate patient on new diagnosis and/or treatment plan
Educate patient on mediation use
Provide pre procedure instructions
Document patient/family learning assessment and understanding of education provided
Utilize licensed independent practitioners, educators and other resources
Quality/PI/Regulatory
Comply with state, federal and other regulations
Participate in ongoing unit, department and organizational performance improvement
Maintain patient safety
Qualifications
Education
Associate degree in Nursing or Diploma in Nursing
Licenses & certifications
State of Texas Registered Nurse License
Health Care Provider Basic Life Support [CPR]
PALS or PEERS
Experience
3 yea! rs as a registered nurse
pediatrics preferred
Specific knowledge, skills, and abilities
Physical demands
Significant portions of daily assignment involve prolonged standing, transporting material, equipment, patients, or lifting, moving or carrying heavy materials for intermittent periods throughout the day
