Patient Care Assistant

I. Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Charge Nurse, the Patie! nt Care Assistant will assist in patient care duties. Direct patient care is done under the direction of a Registered Nurse and within the scope of sound professional nursing practice to be delegated. The PCA will also perform other assigned duties for which they have been specifically trained for.
II. Position Relationships:
A. Responsible to: Unit Director and Charge Nurses.
B. Workers Supervised: None
C. Interrelationships: The Patient Care Assistant has frequent
interaction with residents, families, visitors, physicians, nursing staff and hospital personnel.
III. Responsibilities and Authorities:
A. Performs other duties as assigned by the department's management staff.
B. As patient care and/or Hospital need dictates, both the assigned shift and work station may be changed by the department.
C. Participates in and promotes the âI CARE Advantageâ service philoso! phy of Integrity, Customer Centered, Accountability, Respect a! nd Excellence.
D. Performs essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
E. Practice courteous interpersonal skills and utilize the established channels of communication.
F. Participate in achieving unit, departmental and organizational goals.

G. Practices effective interpersonal skill and utilize the established channels of communication.

Qualifications:
A. Education:
High school graduate or equivalent. Be listed with the Texas Department of Health Nurse Aid Registry OR complete equivalent training within 90 days of hire. Employee must also enroll in a Certified Nursing Assistant course within 1 year of hire date. BLS required within 90 days of date of hire.
B. Training & Experience:
Must have knowledge of some medical and technical terminology and be familiar with hospital policies and procedures. Computer Training will be completed as part of orientation.
