Under the general supervision of the Ultrasound Supervisor, provides Ultrasound services to patients of all ages in accordance with accepted Ultrasou! nd practices and established departmental and hospital guidelines. Responsible for the organization, administration, and documentation of the department's orientation, competency, training and educational programs. Assist with the development and revision of policies, procedures and protocols. Coordinates the Ultrasound Guidelines Program. Oversees and reviews patient test and quality control results and takes remedial action when indicated. Functions as a staff technologist whenever necessary, demonstrating superior knowledge of the human structure and functions, patient care, positioning, and principles of Ultrasound imaging sciences and specialized techniques. The Ultrasound Educator exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complementary of medical ethics.
Qualifications
Knowledge & Skills:
Must possess the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform all exams and procedures of the primary specialty. ! Must work well with others in a busy imaging department. Must ! be customer oriented to provide outstanding services to patients, physicians, visitors and co-workers. Must possess excellent communication, problem solving and leadership skills. Must be able to work autonomously and have computer skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Maintains awareness of patient privacy, confidentiality and dignity at all times. Must be able to demonstrate understanding national patient safety initiatives by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures as required by both HCA and North Austin Medical Center.
Education:
Required:
Graduate of an AMA or Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography approved/accredited Sonography program.
Preferred:
Associates degree or higher in an allied health program.
Experience:
Required:
Minimum of five years experience in general, vascular or maternal fetal medicine sonography. Five years previous Ultraso! und experience in MFM Sonography, to include adult, pediatric and neonatal.
Credentials:
Required:
American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS), basic CPR certification as per St. David's Licensure and Certification Policy
Preferred:
Instructor's certification in BLS; Nuchal Translucency (FMF); Nasal Bone (FMF); Fetal Echo (ARDMS) required within one year of hire.
