I. Position Summary:
Assists professional nursing staff by performing specific resident ! care tasks, within the scope of practice from Certified Nursing Assistant.
II. Position Relationships:
A. Responsible to: Registered and Licensed Vocational Nurse.
B. Workers Supervised: None
C. Interrelationships: The Certified Nursing Assistant has frequent
interaction with residents, families, visitors, physicians, nursing staff and hospital personnel.
III. Responsibilities and Authorities:
A. Performs other duties as assigned by the department's management staff.
B. As patient care and/or Hospital need dictates, both the assigned shift and work station may be changed by the department.
C. Participates in and promotes the âI CARE Advantageâ service philosophy of Integrity, Customer Centered, Accountability, Respect and Excellence.
D. Performs essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
E. Practice courteous interpersonal s! kills and utilize the established channels of communication.

B. Collects and documents vital signs and baseline data; reports resident/family status changes to R.N.
C. Provides and assists resident with basic needs and activities of daily living.

F. Demonstrates ability to perform technical skills.
G. Prioritizes and implements resident care, demonstrating effective time management.

V. Qualifications:
A. Education:
High school graduate or equivalent. The Nursing Assistant will be listed with the Texas Department of Health Nurse Aid Registry.
B. Training & Experience:
1. Current BLS
2. Successful completion of general and nursing orientation within 3 months of hire.
3. Completion of the following competencies within 3 months of here or transfer:
- Unit orientation
- Unit safety
- Attendance r! equirements
- Code Blue participation
- Safe, effective p! atient care: patient identification, vital signs, inputs/outputs, personal care, bed-making, patient transfer and reporting
- Appropriate and timely documentation
- Effective time management, organizational and prioritization skills
- Technical skills including equipment use

Under the supervision of the Charge Nurse, the Patient Care Assistant will assist in patient care duties. ! Direct patient care is done under the direction of a Registered Nurse and within the scope of sound professional nursing practice to be delegated. The PCA will also perform other assigned duties for which they have been specifically trained for.

High school graduate or equivalent. Be listed with the Texas Department of Health Nurse Aid Registry OR complete equivalent training within 90 days of hire. Employee must also enroll in Certified Nursing Assistant course within 1 year of hire date. BLS required within 90 days of date of hire.
B. Training & Experience:
Must have knowledge of some medical and technical terminology and be familiar with hospital policies and procedures. Computer Training will be completed as part of orientation.
