POSITION:School Nurse Assistant (Group D)ANNUAL SALARY: $20,200 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: •High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)•Two years nursing experience in community health, hospital environment, physician'soffice, or school health•Pediatric/adolescent experience; preferably in a public school environment•Valid Texas Licensed Vocational Nurse License issued by the Texas Board of Nursing•Certification by the Texas Department of State Health Services to administer Hearing,Vision, and Spinal Screenings required upon employment•Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR/AED) Certification•Paraprofessional Certification as required by the State Board and the District•Valid Texas Driver License with driving record that meets the requirements of the District•Comprehensive knowledge of nursing techniques/ procedures, assessing illness/ injury, ethical principles/ codes of professional nursing practices, health education, wellness promotion and inventory control. •Must possess strong communication and writing skills•Ability to operate computers accounting software, calculators and general office equipment•Comprehensive knowledge of nursing techniques/ procedures, assessing illness/ injury, ethical principles/ codes of professional nursing practices, health education, wellness promotion and inventory control. POSITION DESCRIPTION: •Works under the direct supervision of the Licensed Registered School Nurse•Provides direct basic care, minor first aid, and minor emergency care for ill and injuredstudents and staff according to established school policy and procedures within theLicensed Vocational Nurse scope of practice•Contacts the Licensed Registered School Nurse relative to matters of non-routine nature•Consults with the Licensed Registered School Nurse if unsure about policies,procedures, or protocols•Secures immediate medical care for students in emergency situations•Reports situations requiring the Licensed Registered School Nurse's assessmentand/or interventions to the School Nurse immediately•Utilizes a systematic approach to provide individualized, goal-directed nursing care bycollecting data and performing focused nursing assessments and implementingappropriate aspects of care within the Licensed Vocational Nurse's scope of practice•Documents pertinent student health information and completely and accurately recordsfindings obtained during student visits to the clinic•Calls parents to report information regarding illnesses, injuries, and accidents•Administers medication and documents administration according to school policy and procedure•Performs additional duties and accepts other responsibilities as may be assignedWORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDSMay be required to work more than 40 hours during the work weekThe usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands:May lift 5â€"10 pounds frequently, 10â€"50 pounds occasionally, and more than 50 pounds infrequently. Must maintain emotional control under stress.
Frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, bending, and twisting. May move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks and other classroom or adaptive equipment. May work indoors and outdoors in varying climate conditions. Subject to visual acuity, speech/hearing, hand/eye coordination and manual dexterity.
