Qualifications/Duties
Basic Qualifications:
EDUCATION:
Graduate of two-year, AMA approved respiratory therapy program with Associateâs degree as accepted by the National Board for Respiratory Care as sufficient education for the Registry level.
LICENSE / CERTIFICATION:
BLS, RCP, RRT certifications.
SKILLS:
Incumbent must be able to speak, read and write English with a high level of understanding. Incumbent must be able to hear breath sounds and cardiac sounds with a stethoscope. Incumbent must be able to see the computer read outs for ventilators and computers used in the provision of RT services.
DUTIES:
BASIC respiratory therapy skills include: oxygen & aerosol therapy, bronchodilator therapy, volume therapy, breathing exercises, patient monitoring devices & techniques, SCI protocols, stop smoking counseling, peak flow, NIP & FVC monitoring.
ADVANCED Respiratory Therapy skills include: CPAP/BiPAP ventilation, all modes of adult ventilation, weaning from ventilation techniques and/or protocol, transport of ventilated pts. Intubations, CPR, Rapid Response calls, Blood Gas draws and/or analysis, bedside PFTs, bedside monitoring devices, airway care, trach care.
R.T. PROTOCOLSâ"initiation, assessment, application, follow-up, and completion of adult respiratory therapy protocols. This includes oxygen protocol, post-op monitoring protocol, BiPAP protocol, vent weaning protocol and RT Treatment protocols. *RT Protocols are not available in the neonatal, infant nor pediatric patient populations.
Patient Assessment, Careplanning and Adjustments in RT Care.
Patient & Family Education on respiratory therapy procedures or illnesses.
