The incumbent is responsible for all Pharmaceutical Services in the assigned pediatric units. This position includes at least ! 75% clinical pharmacy practice and may include up to 25% distributive activities to the area assigned. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assist in maintaining a continuous level of readiness for inspection by external groups; provide pharmacotherapy consultations as requested in practice area; prepare drug monographs, MUE advice and other information as needed for the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee; attend hospital committee meetings as needed; and provide education to pharmacists, nurses and physicians; serve as preceptor to pharmacy students, residents, and fellows.
Participate in the ongoing review of the drug formulary; participate in performance improvement activities and assist in the dispensing areas of the pharmacy as a staff pharmacist and respond to codes as needed.
Contribute to pharmacy and medical literature; participate in research where applicable; maintain knowledge in area of expertise; provide mentoring for clinical pharmacists; and perf! orm other duties and special projects as required. Qualificati! onsEducation
Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of Pharmacy is required. Doctorate of Pharmacy and completion of a pediatric clinical pharmacy residency is preferred. Licenses & certifications
Current Texas licensure and registration as a Pharmacist is required.
BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification required within 90 days of hire.
PALS Certification required within 180 days of hire for all Emergency Care and Critical Care Senior Clinical Pharmacists. Experience
One to two years of previous pediatrics experience is preferred. Specific knowledge, skills, and abilities
Psychomotor - Health screening; diagnosis; the design and recommendation of pharmacotherapy; Knowledge of chronic and acute diseases forms.
Advanced Communication Skills - Professional-to-patient communication; ability to form collaborative relationships with patient care team, conveying and demonstrating expertise, clearly articulating recommendations.
Problem Solving ! - Complex technical; participate in team decision-making; literature evaluation skills for critical analysis of data to create educational materials.
Professional Socialization - Effective group-presentation skills; ability to work on committees.
Attitudes - Values-high integrity; strong patient advocate; Judgment-able to assess patient need and work with patient care team to affect best solution.
