Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Performs medical assessments and treatments for the Pediatric/Adolescent Wellness Clinic population. Population includes patient from 2 years to 23 years.

Facilitates patient access to medical care by recommending appropriate referrals to other health care providers in accordance! with MTFs policies and regulations. Provides consulting servi! ces to other physicians.

Provides outpatient services for patients of the Pediatric Wellness Clinic as scheduled by the Government. Care shall include but are not be limited to routine general pediatric medicine care to include care for acute and chronic patient conditions, specifically diabetic and pre-diabetic children/adolescences. Collects, records, and maintains patient information, such as medical history, reports, and examination results.

Administers patient care to include approving/disapproving subspecialty referrals, answering patient telephone consult with the assistance of clinic staff, refilling prescriptions, providing primary and secondary preventative maintenance care.

Provides immediate evaluation and management of emergency problems as they occur.

Diagnose and treat diseases and injuries to include, but not limited to the following: obesity related conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, PCOS, and meta! bolic syndrome.

Prepares all records and reports as may be required in support of services rendered and as required by the MTF.

Participates in educational activities involving the Pediatric residents and Adolescent Medicine fellows as needed.

Maintains data prepares reports and presentations as necessary in support of the Diabetes Program Strategic Plan.

Provides consultative services in support of the Pediatric Wellness Clinic and the Air Force Medical Service (AFMS) Medical Home Pediatric Obesity assessment and management program.

Advises patients, parents or guardians and community members concerning diet, activity, hygiene, and disease prevention. Explains procedures and discuss test results or prescribed treatments with patients and parents or guardians.

Examines children regularly to assess their growth and development. Monitors patients' condition and progress and re-evaluate treatments as necessary. Prescribes o! r administers treatment, therapy, medication, vaccination, and other sp! ecialized medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease, or injury in children, adolescents and young adults.

Examines patients or order, perform and interpret diagnostic tests to obtain information on medical condition and determine diagnosis.

Plan and execute medical care programs to aid in the mental and physical growth and development of children and adolescents.

Treats children who have minor illnesses, acute and chronic health problems and growth and development concerns.

Conducts research to study anatomy and develop or test medications, treatments, or procedures to prevent, or control disease or injury.

Facilitates activities of nurses, students, assistants, specialists, therapists, and other medical staff.

Plans, implements, or administers health programs or standards in hospital, business, or community for information, prevention, or treatment of injury or illness.

Prepares reports for government o! r management of birth, death, and disease statistics, workforce evaluations, or medical status of individuals.

Works closely with physicians, nutritionists, nurses, and social workers.

Coordinates with primary care physicians, subspecialists, schools, and others.

Provides lectures, supervising and mentoring trainees in clinic.

Occasional travel required to additional military sites to provide education and consultation related to Diabetes Program outreach efforts.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.)

Current board certification by the American Board of Pediatrics.

Completion of a residency in Pediatric Medicine acceptable to the Surgeon General, United States Air Force is mandatory.

Minimum of two (2) years experience in a pediatric related field is required within the last three (3) years.

PALS Required.
