Certified Professional Coder (CPC) - Medical Center
The Certified Professional Coder (CPC) ensures billable patient charge documents have been correctly coded using CPT4 and ICD9 codes to obtain optimum reimbursement. This individual assures insurance information and appropriate referrals have been completely and accurately obtained for multi-specialty pediatric surgery patients. In addition, this individual reviews, determines accuracy of and applies the correct coding conventions to patient charge encounters, procedural and surgical services, as defined through physician documentation, regulatory agencies and various third-party payers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Abstracts data from medical records/charts for compliant/accurate documentation per state and regulatory guidelines. Assigns appropriate ICD-9-CM and CPT Codes to documentation pertaining to surgical procedures and Evaluation and Management charges for multi specialties. Assists in providing education to physicians/non-physician practitioners/physician assistants/fellows/residents to ensure maximum reimbursement charge capture and proper documentation. Monitors charges/reimbursements to optimize the collection process for all departmental charges. Attends and participates in and/or leads coding-related educational activities and management meetings, as directed. Stays abreast on coding procedures in order to utilize state of the art methods of accurate reimbursement. Assures timely submission of charges. Minimal entry of charges into departmental database.
Qualifications:
3-5 years of billing and coding experience required High school diploma or equivalent required; some college preferred. Certified Professional Coder Certification through the American Academy of Professional Coder required.
