Qualifications/Duties

EDUCATION:
Graduate of an accredited AMA Respiratory Care Program.

SHIFT/HOURS:
7a-pa; Full-Time (36 hrs/wk)

EXPERIENCE:
2 years experience in ICU/NICU/ED.

LICENSE / CERTIFICATION:
RRT credentials required. ACLS and NRP required within 90 days of hired

SKILLS:Basic Respiratory Therapy Skills:
Oxygen and Aerosol therapy, bronchodilator therapy, volume therapy, airway care, trach care, breathing exercises, patient monitoring devices and techniques, protocols, NIP and FVC monitoring

Advanced Respiratory Therapy Skills:
CPAP/BiPAP ventilation, all modes of adult or neonatal ventilation, weaning from ventilation techniques and /or protocol, transport of ventilated pa! tients. Intubations, CPR, blood gas draws and/or analysis, bed! side PFT’s, bedside monitoring devices

DUTIES:
Basic Respiratory Therapy Skills
Oxygen and Aerosol therapy, bronchodilator therapy, volume therapy, airway care, trach care, breathing exercises, patient monitoring devices and techniques, protocols, NIP and FVC monitoring

Advanced Respiratory Therapy Skills
CPAP/BiPAP ventilation, all modes of adult or neonatal ventilation, weaning from ventilation techniques and /or protocol, transport of ventilated patients. Intubations, CPR, blood gas draws and/or analysis, bedside PFT’s, bedside monitoring devices

  • Verified, accurate physician’s orders for respiratory procedures.
  • Safe, accurate applications and delivery of all modes, methods, devices, pharmacology procedures and service equipment required to treat patients with respiratory therapies, including universal precaution infection control techniques and correct hand washing procedures.
  • Correct patient ident! ification by procedure.
  • Safe, accurate, timely and effective communication regarding such with MD, RN, RT peers.
  • Appropriate and timely communication with supervisors and the chain of command is completed as necessary to meet the clinical needs of all patients.
  • All procedures related to tasks will be complete: including reporting adverse events, obtaining new orders and correcting deficiencies in care or orders.
  • Adverse reactions to RT care will be identified and emergency measures for such initialed.
  • Assessments will be complete, timely and accurate, including care plans.
  • Age differences specific to each of the basic modalities are accurately applied, assessed, utilized and communicated.
RT Protocols - Initiation, assessment, application, follow-up, and completion of adult respiratory therapy protocols. RT protocols are not available in the neonatal, infant nor pediatric patient populations.

Patient ! Assessment, Care Planning and Adjustments in Care

  • Pat! ients will move safely and accurately through respiratory protocols/guidelines.
  • Compliance to all the protocol algorithms and documentation needs.
  • Communication with physicians as required by the needs of the patient and included in the protocol guidelines.
  • Correct department documentation procedures completed.
  • Each patient with each treatment has an assessment of responses to care, documented.
  • Completed, accurate and timely initial assessments, timed re-assessments and urgent care assessments are to be done as required.
  • Accurate, timely and safe care planning in all patient populations are applied with effective care decisions for the age of the patient.
  • RT contribution and participation on the unit-based councils and discharge planning teams as applicable
